In July of 2009 I decided enough was enough and said this would be my last perm (for real this time). I said for real this time because in July of 2000 I chopped off all my hair and was going natural but after 3 months I gave up. My hair had thinned so badly, the ends started to flip up on their own. Between July 2009 and June 2010 I wore braids and quick weaves to transition my hair.
So June 30, 2010 I went all in and did my "BIG CHOP". Which defeated the purpose of transitioning for a year. I just couldn't handle the two different textures fooling my head around any longer. I let my beautician cut off my perm and then I went to my friend who is a barber and let him give me a fade.
I wore my fade for about six months. I soooo loved this style, but being the person that I am I needed a change after six months. I received my last full hair cut in January 2011, but because I didn't like the way the sides and back were growing in I kept them tapered until my hair started to grow out a little more.
The main styles I have worn since I started to let my hair grow are: Curly TWAs, Twist, Twist Outs, Coils, Coil Outs, Braids, Afros, Mohawks and my trusty rusty Puff. If it wasn't for Puffs and Coil Outs I would have did another BC. Thank God for my shoe lace (for my puff). LOL.
This is my Afro the day after a wash. I put in big twist the night before to keep my hair from being so matted the next morning. Its picked out and not blown out. This picture was taken in July 2012. I love my Fro. It took a year and a half to get from my fade to this fro. My hair may not grow as fast as some, but I am excited about the progress my hair has made.
This was my length before my trim on August 31, 2012. I have only gotten three trims since I've been natural. I am not sure if I had trimmed more if my hair would have grown better or not, but I trimmed as I felt needed. I feel a year and half is not bad for my length. But any-who, this is where I am now and I love every strand and every minute of this journey and I hope you enjoy yours too.
BE HAPPY TO BE NAPPY!!!!!!!
